Minneapolis pest control

We Minnesota's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Minneapolis rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Minneapolis pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
  • Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
  • Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
  • Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
  • When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires

Minneapolis Rodent Removal Tip:

Why Do Rats Chew on Wires?
If rats have made their way into your home, your garage, or anywhere else on your property, you are probably concerned about any damage they may cause. One of the most serious damages rats are known to cause is chewing on wiring. While it does not seem too dangerous, bare wires can cause fires and other dangerous risks. Continue reading this article to find out more about why rats chew on wires.

Why?
It seems pretty strange that a rat would decide to chew on a piece of metal covered by an insulating material. They will not receive any nutritional value from it, nor will they be able to do much with the insulating material scraps. The general consensus is that rats and mice have teeth that grow indefinitely, so they need to find materials to chew on that can wear them down. Wires often present the perfect object that they can grind their teeth down on. Not only is there an insulative coating that provides some wearing of the teeth, but there is also metal below. Obviously, the metal that makes up wires provides a great way for the rat or mouse to wear down its long teeth. In addition, these rodents can pick up and hold the wire with their two paws, which provides them with excellent control over how much wearing down their teeth experience.

rodent trapping Why would the rats actively seek out the wiring when there are many other objects that they can wear their teeth down on? It turns out that they do not actively seek out the wiring. Rather, the rodents only chew on wiring whenever they bump into it. For example, if rats make their way into your home, they will likely head for your attic or the inside of your walls. Obviously, these places provide plenty of wires to chew on. Since rodents generally secure food and shelter, chewing the wiring usually only occurs once they are comfortable.

Finally, there is one other aspect of the rat wiring chewing that needs to be covered. In addition to the wiring in your house or your garage, there is one other place that rats commonly can be found to be chewing on wiring. Your automobile contains tons of wires throughout it that provide electricity for many different functions. If a rat or mouse makes its way into the engine block or anywhere else in your vehicle, it can chew on the wiring and cause issues with your vehicle's functions.

What Damage Do Chewed Wires Cause?
Wires that have been chewed on by rats do not seem like too big of a problem on their own. You must consider the consequences of a wire without its insulative cover. A wire without insulation can cause fires quite easily, and in many of the places where rats live and chew on wires, you may not know about the fire until it is too late. In addition to the potential for fires, there is also the risk of wires being shorted out. Shorted out wires are incredibly frustrating and can even be dangerous in some cases.

Wires that have been chewed on in automobiles can cause the same type of problems. You may notice that your car will not start, or if it does start, it may even catch fire if a bare wire sparks. In addition to the potential for fires, certain features of your car may not function because of shorted wires. As can be seen, rats cause quite a bit of damage to wires in homes, garages, and even automobiles. That is why it is so important to get rid of rats and mice as soon as you know you may have a problem.
